Do you picture yourself soaking up the sun on a white sandy beach, complete with a cold beer in your hand? Or do you prefer the buzz of the big cities? Maybe you would choose a return to nature? We all have our dream place to relax and unwind, from high end resorts to sleeping beneath the stars. We chose to sample the delights of a riverside hotel.

he Oxalis home, situated on the banks of the Son river, tempted us with its scenic location, and its proximity to adventure. The lure of the limestone mountains, the winding river, and a mysterious cave system was indeed too strong, and we soon found ourselves in the spectacular Quang Binh Province, and on our way to Phong Nha town.

As its name suggests; Oxalis Home is indeed just that. We felt immediately at home when greeted by the friendly and super helpful staff. Our room, named after one of the famous caves near-by, offered comfort and a view to die for. It was hard to choose between the 5 rooms; Did we want a river or a mountain view?

We settled on the river view. We were not disappointed.

Our room interior was fresh and simple. Although the king size bed and spacious en-suite bathroom created a little touch of luxury. We could soak up the sounds and beauty of river life from our very own balcony, or the comfort of our tastefully furnished room. We had the ideal spot for watching the magical sunset, and could hardly wait for the glorious sunrise. So close to nature, yet provided with all modern amenities, including a mini bar,… we had found our perfect place.

Oxalis Home is located right beside Oxalis Adventure Tour’s office. Check what is on offer with the efficient and helpful Sales staff there. We chose the deck chairs on the beach option! The cushy bean bag chairs would have soothed us to sleep, but we preferred to cool off in the river, whilst the hotel staff supplied us with delicious drinks and food.

If nature is your thing, visit the Botanical Gardens, a perfect place, especially for families. There are easy walking paths, beautiful trees, and even a waterfall. After that, why not head to Chay Lap Farmstay and its Riverside water centre.

Enjoy the experience of rustic style accommodation & exciting outdoor activities. If you still have the energy, travel on to near-by Dark Cave, or the Nuoc Mooc Eco-trail. These are popular places just to chill out, especially in the summer months.

Oxalis Home has its very own “Expedition” restaurant, which overlooks the Son river. It offers an array of delicious local and Western foods. You can choose a private dinner on your own balcony, or sample the delights of our relaxed restaurant.

If you desire something even less formal, you should head down to the beach, where you can dine beneath the stars. For something a little more unusual, kayak out to the near-by island, where Oxalis home can treat you to a tasty BBQ. Eat around the campfire, and marvel at the night sky above you. This was our choice. It was a night like no other.
