Which months of the year do you run this tour?

This tour runs from mid – late December to mid – September of each year. In January to March there is a chance to see epic sunbeams if you have sunny weather. From April to August, a cool campsite next to swimming pools within a very big chamber inside the cave would be a big reward for you after a long trekking day in hot weather.

Can I arrive in Phong Nha on the morning of the tour and depart Phong Nha directly after the tour?

Yes and yes. This tour starts with pickup between 8:00 – 8:30 am in Phong Nha and returns around 5:00 – 5:30 pm the following evening. Is this a good tour for photography enthusiasts? What are the highlights of the cave?

Yes! This is one of our top-ranked tours for photography enthusiasts. We highly recommend bringing a tripod and a wide-angle lens if you have it, in order to best capture the vistas within the cave. You’ll get great shots of the campsite set up on the beach (you can take photos from the cliffs above) and in late December to early March, you have the opportunity to witness and photography amazing sunbeams when the sun is shining.

Why is this tour ranked Adventure Level 3 when it’s just a 2-day tour?

This tour is ranked Adventure Level 3 due to the long trek it takes to get there and back. The trek is about 10 km each way and includes an enormous hill at the beginning and end of the tour. The last hour and a half coming up the hill at the end of the tour is the hardest part of the trip.

Is Hang En part of Son Doong Cave?

No; although Hang En may have been a part of Son Doong Cave many millions of years ago when they first formed, it is no longer part of Son Doong Cave today. Hang En is an entirely separate cave which feeds into Son Doong Cave, so while you have to go through Hang En to reach Son Doong Cave, you will not see Son Doong Cave on a 2-day Hang En Cave Adventure.

You do not need to know how to swim to join this tour, but you will have river crossings up to your waist so prepared to get your shoes and trousers wet. If you like to swim, you are welcome to splash about in your choice of two large natural pools located next to camp within the cave.
