Tu Lan Adventure Race 2017 promises to be an exclusively astonishing race like no other with more demanding challenges, requires participants to have a complete preparation in all aspects to be able to successfully win the race & accomplish the prize.

Tu Lan Adventure Race 2017 is an adventurous race with multi-activities including running, wooden-boat racing, waterfall & stream crossing, caving, jungle trekking and underground river caves swimming.. The difficulty level of adventure varies widely through years.

The main goal of Tu Lan Adventure Race 2017 is not only to create an courageous playground for those who keen on exploration in Vietnam Cave Kingdom but also to whole-heartedly support the local community. Following the success of the last year’s Tu Lan Adventure Race, we made our commitment in helping building 5 of the floating houses for economically deprived families in the flood area of Tan Hoa commune, Quang Binh province, Vietnam.

General information

Tu Lan Adventure Race 2017 is a competition of 100 people, divided into 10 teams. Each team will be judged each day on a number of challenges and impediment throughout the journey. The first day named Exploration, each team will participate in the Wooden boat race with many of exciting challenges & experiences. The next day named Conquest will demand each team with different activities including: jungle trekking, stream crossing, mount climbing & underground river cave swimming.. The race will cover the total of 30 kilometers by both trails & rivers. The last day will be the day of community supports.


From March 31st, 2017 to April 3rd, 2017

Target Participants

Anyone (can be either Vietnamese or foreigner) who is over 18 years old and loves outdoor activities & cave exploration are welcome to join.

Conditions of registration

It is required for each team to have 10 members and must be in a group to be qualified for registration. Companies can register for their staff in a group of ten people and name the group. Organizers will not accept individual registrations.

Registration information

Each group will need to gather members’ personal information (full name, gender, date of birth, ID/passport number, phone number, and email address), leader’s name, leader’s contact information & group name together, and then register online at: https://oxalis.com.vn/tu-lan-adventure-race-2017/. Our registration system will be open at 9 AM (GMT+7) December 15th, 2016 and will be closed as soon as there are 10 group have successfully registered.

Special notice: One of the main goals of this program is raising funds to support economically deprived families in building floating houses for the flood season in Tan Hoa commune, Quang Binh.

Entry fee

Entry fee is 70,000,000 VND/group of ten people. The entry fee includes:

  • 1 night stay at Chay Lap Farmstay (each team will be provided 2 rooms), all water sport activities at Chay Lap Water Sport Center.
  • Porter team, camping gear (hammock, mosquito net & sleeping bag), medic team located at each station & campsite.
  • Meals per the itinerary from March 31 to April 3, 2017.
  • Tax and all of related fees during the program.
  • A donation to the fund for the construction of floating houses for poor families in Tan Hoa commune of Quang Binh.

Detailed Program

Each team participated in the program need to create a group on Facebook with the name followed by the template: “Group Name” – Tu Lan Adventure Race 2017. It is required to use an official cover photo that is provided by the organizers and all of the contents & photo on the Facebook group must be managed and related to the Tu Lan Adventure Race program. Organizers will award the Media Prize for the most effective team:

  • The team has the highest amount of members
  • The team has the highest amount of “Likes” /”Reactions” on specific posts in the group page on Facebook

All teams required to present at Chay Lap Farmstay before 3 PM of the 31st March, 2017 for attendance check. There will be no mission for the first day; you will have the chance to enjoy the fresh & peaceful atmosphere of Vietnam local village while participating in the exciting riverside activities at Chay Lap Water Sport Centre. A safety briefing before the race and a welcome dinner will be hosting at 6:30 PM in Chay Lap Farmtay.

  • 6:30 PM: Welcome dinner & Safety Briefing before the race


Oxalis will provide:

  • Necessary information related to transportation
  • Two accommodation rooms/each team at Chay Lap Farmstay
  • Free activities at Chay Lap Water Sport Center
  • Necessary documents & information related to the program to ensure all of the participants understand the rules & regulations during the program.


Teams will need to prepare:

  • Participants must prepare their own transportation to Chay Lap Farmstay
  • Participants need to prepare all of the necessary personal belongings for the race before arriving at Chay Lap Farmstay.


On the second day, participants will be transferred by bus to the meeting point at Trung Hoa Bridge before being given 2 wooden boats for each team to start the race officially. Teams will do the boat racing along the river then reach Oxalis’ Tan Hoa office. This will be a rough mission with a total race distance of 15 kilometers on the river and require the team spirit to achieve the highest scores. After the race, participants will have time to enjoy the peaceful rustic beauty of Tan Hoa Village’s landscape while adoring the delicious feast prepared by the locals.

Oxalis will provide:

  • Transportation: Bus departs from Chay Lap Farmstay to the Meeting Point (Trung Hoa Bridge)
  • Camping gears: campsite, tents, lights, sleeping bags (Each team will be provided 5 tents with 3 double tents & 2 triple tents)
  • 2 wooden boats for each team
  • Life-vests for all participants
  • 1 dry box on one boat
  • 1 First-Aid Kit on one boat
  • Secure storage facility for valuable belongings
  • Rescue Team along the way of the race
  • Water-supply stopovers along the way of the race
  • Dinner at locals’ house


Teams will need to prepare:

  • Bottle of water (Oxalis will provide water during the race)
  • Personal items: mosquito repellent, sunglasses, hat, toiletries, etc.
  • Snacks (such as peanuts, energy food etc.) – optional


The third day’s itinerary will be longer, more challenging & dangerous than the day before. During the race, participants will not only race but also have the chance to experience the magnificent beauty of Tu Lan, which will definitely help in overcoming the fears & difficulties to get closer to the destination of the Conquest Round.


  • 06:30 Breakfast at campsite in Oxalis Tan Hoa office
  • 07:30 Conquest Round rules & regulations briefing with organizers
  • 08:00 Start the race by running, caving, mount climbing, underground river cave swimming. Teams depart 10 minutes apart with a total distance of racing of 15km (1 km dry cave, 200 meters underground river cave swimming, 13 km of trekking, 4 slopes of an estimated 250 meters height)
  • 17:00 All teams need to arrive at Oxalis Tan Hoa office (absent team will be eliminated)
  • 18:30 Summarize the activities throughout the day & enjoy the Gala Dinner party at campsite in Oxalis Tan Hoa office.


Oxalis will provide:

  • Breakfast prepared by Oxalis’ chefs
  • Packed lunch for each team (all teams need to carry their own lunch packages)
  • Gala Dinner party with private DJ including music & stunning lighting system
  • Rescue Team along the way of the race
  • Water-supply stopovers along the way of the race
  • One Walkie Talkie for each team in emergency situations
  • Caving & safety gears: helmets, caving headlights, gloves
  • Camping gears: campsite, tents, lights, sleeping bags (Each team will be provided 5 tents with 3 double tents & 2 triple tents)


Teams will need to prepare:

  • 1 long pants (easy to dry) and 1 long sleeved shirt (quick dry) to wear during the trek (can be bought at Oxalis office)
  • 1 pair of trekking boots/shoes
  • 1-2 pairs of calf length densely woven socks (not ankle socks)
  • 1 bottle of water
  • Personal items: mosquito repellent, sunglasses, hat, toiletries..
  • Snacks (such as peanuts, energy foods – optional)


The last day of the race will be spent as community supporters. After the breakfast, all teams will help each other in building 5 floating houses in order to avoid flood in flood season, for poor families of Tan Hoa Commune, Quang Binh. The rest of the race, participants can walk around to have a closer look on the landscapes, have a quick swim on the river & take some pictures before leaving for Phong Nha.

  • All of the necessary building facilities for the floating houses’ construction


Teams will need to prepare:

  • Personal items: sun glasses, hat, sunscreen, etc.

Main Prizes

  • The First Prize with equivalent value of VND 130,000,000
  • The First Runner-Up Prize with equivalent value of VND 50,000,000
  • The Second Runner-Up Prize with equivalent value of VND 30,000,000.

Media Prizes

  • The First Media Prize: 10x PIXA 3 headlamps with equivalent value of VND 16,000,000
  • The Second Media Prize: 10x headlamps of another model (TIKKA + or TACTIKKA) with equivalent value of VND 10,000,000
  • The Third Media Prize: 10x free pass for indoor rock climbing at Vertical Academy (HCMC) or VietClimb (Hanoi) with equivalent of VND 2,000,000

Program’s Rules & Regulations

All participants need to follow the designated program’s rules & regulations

Rules/Regulations of the race

Before the race:

  • Each team will have to create a new Facebook group (existing group will not be acceptable) under the name “Team name – Tu Lan Adventure Race 2017” right after successfully registered & receive the email from the organizers.
  • Inform the Organizers about the Facebook group before inviting Friends to join the group.
  • The Facebook group of the team needs to be set under “Public” mode.
  • Required to use the designated cover photo provided by organizers for the Facebook group
  • Group Post’s content are limited within the program including team-related trainings, practices, preparations, activities before and during the program; the destinations (Tu Lan, Tan Hoa, Quang Binh, caves & surrounding areas)
  • Do not post sensitive/illegal/un-related posts to attract public engagements.

Day 1:

  • All teams need to arrive in time at Chay Lap Farmstay for attendance check.
  • Please be on time at 6:30PM for welcome dinner and safety briefing before the race.

Day 2:

  • Each team will be provided 2 wooden boat and start at the same time. Teams who cannot complete the mission before 5 PM will be eliminated from the race and will not race in the following day.
  • The mission is considered as completed if one of two boats gets to the destination before 5 PM. This round’s points will be marked by the total scores of two boats.
  • Each member of each team will need to work closely together to finish the mission. Note: Teams will need to carry the boat through some shallow parts of the river and avoid the rocky parts that might break the boats.
  • Guide team will ensure the participants’ safety during the race. However, participants will not be allowed having any actions that might endanger self & other participants during the race.

Day 3:

  • Each team departs 10 mins apart. The departing order will be relied on the previous day’ scores. (The team with the lowest score will be the first team to start the race on the next day and keep going by ascending order from low to high)
  • All teams need to follow the given rules/regulations & requested to follow the instructions of the guide team to guarantee the safety for the whole team.
  • Following closely the marked points along the way to ensure you’re on the right track. Contact organizer immediately if any problems occur.

Day 4:

  • Participants need to follow given rules and instructions during the construction of floating houses in Tan Hoa commune. Do not try to break the rules.
  • Participants need to show respects to the hosts & the construction supporters.

Other rules/regulations

  • Teams which eliminated in the Exploration Round will not be able to join the race as participants, but still can follow the next itinerary as tourists.
  • Participants are required to maintain the responsibility of protecting the environment during the program.
  • Collecting stalactites, breaking trees or causing damage to any kind of resources are strictly prohibited.
  • Respect local people & their traditions.
  • Respect other team’s members. This is believed to be a good opportunity to build relationships & create communities
  • Do not litter during the program
  • Be caution in maintaining safety for self & other people.

Organizer has the right to remove any team (without refund) if organizer finds out they are do not uphold the conditions of participation.

Booking Conditions

Payment and tour confirmation

  • Upon making your reservation, the organizer will follow up within 5 working days via email with an invoice. Payment can be made by way of bank transfer or our secure online payment provider OnePay by 100% fee.
  • Please review your invoice and the payment link to ensure they match the services booked, and submit your payment. You will have 5 days to make payment otherwise your reservation will be cancelled. You can make payment via Visa or MasterCard in Vietnamese Dong.

Special note: Transaction via credit card (Visa or MasterCard) will incur an extra 3% charge.


  • If for any reason you cannot join the race after successfully completing the registration process, all program fees will be forfeited without further compensation.
  • Team members may be alternated (no more than 3 people) before March 15, 2017. Any changes or amendments after that will not be allowed.


  • All participants must hold a valid passport/identity card and valid visa. It is your responsibility to obtain a current Vietnam visa.
  • All passports/identity card and visas must be presented upon arrival at Oxalis Adventure Tours office. A photocopy will be made in our office and provided to local police for registration before accessing any area in which we conduct tours.

Travel insurance and risk

  • You are advised to purchase a comprehensive travel insurance package covering medical treatment, natural disaster, personal accidents, guided-caving tours, medical evacuation, etc.
  • You need to understand that during the course of the trip certain events may occur such as accident or illness in a remote location without medical facilities. You agree to assume all risks and hold Oxalis Adventure Tours blameless on all accounts of accident or illness.

Fitness requirements

You must be in good physical health before attempting the Tu Lan Adventure Race 2017. It is vital that participants with pre-existing medical problems or conditions make these known to Oxalis Adventure Tours. If we discover that you have a medical condition which you have not disclosed to us (particularly a condition which would affect you on tour) or if you lie on your medical form in any manner, we reserve the right to cancel your participant rights without refund at any time. If your medical status changes at any time after you sign up, it is your responsibility to inform us immediately. Medical and evacuation expenses are the responsibility of the participant. If you cannot complete any section of the program due to lack of physical ability you will be turned around.
